Guest Post – 5 Keys to Work-Life Balance

If you have ever wondered if it is possible to run your business and personal life in a balanced fashion without burning out – then this guest post is for you. Heidi McGill is a Registered Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine and the owner of Healing Foundations Naturopathic Clinic in Guelph, Ontario. September is a time of transition and there are often new stresses and demands on us. Heidi shares these wonderful insights to help you balance your life without running out of time or energy.

For the past 5 years I’ve witnessed the growth of my clinic– more clients, services, staff and profit – while pursuing my own optimal health, and perhaps I can offer my experience to help you. Here are my top 5 keys to success for balancing business, finances, time management, and personal wellness.

1. Make your personal health a priority
– This means exercise, adequate sleep, good nutrition (minimal caffeine, sugar, and processed foods. Lots of fresh fruit, veggies, some lean protein, healthy grains, and fats)

– Connecting with friends and family will fill your cup and make you feel grounded.

2. Practice meditation
Can you imagine sitting still for 5 minutes each day and just focus on your breath! Sounds crazy, but it will help – a lot! Meditation is key to undoing anxiety, tension, and fear.

3. Understand your relationship with money
You may be surprised to find that you harbor really unpleasant feelings about money once you look closer. Develop a regular, compassionate relationship with your finances, no matter what they are. This is key to your professional and personal financial wellness.

4. Get help from reliable sources and pay for it
You can’t do it all by yourself, and you shouldn’t! Orchestrating a smooth running business and life requires that you get some help from good people and advisors. Web designer, business coach, home cleaning, bookkeeper – happily pay for these services as they will being value to your life.

5. Surrender the responsibility for outcome
This may surprise you! It means BREATHE. Let up on the control, and go easy on yourself. You are not responsible for everything. Take the next best step that you can, and then let go.
